I pulled this article out of a Women’s Health Magazine in July:
“Yet another reason to quit the cancer sticks for good: It turns out tobacco contains hundreds of germs. An Environmental Health Perspectives study found myriad bacteria in cigarettes, including the nasties that can cause food poisoning, pneumonia, and staph infections. Gross! Scientists have long known that exposure to tobacco smoke leads to lung problems, but this new evidence shows the infections may be coming from microorganisms in the tobacco itself and are not just the result of generally weakened lungs, says lead study author Amy R. Sapkota, Ph.D., of the University of Maryland.”
Sounds to me, like another good reason to quit smoking!
